Coventry University
Coventry University is proud to be a business-facing university with a reputation for excellence in applied research. Our core expertise lies in Low Carbon Transport: from designing and engineering the vehicles of tomorrow to creating the intelligent, green cities in which these vehicles will operate.

Our expertise in Low Carbon engineering spans aerodynamics, advanced joining, emissions reduction, control theory, lightweighting & advanced composites as well as expertise in Intelligent Transport Systems. Our aerodynamics research is primarily concerned with the use of computational fluid dynamics to investigate problems in areas of predictive engineering for both external and internal flows. Applications for this research include the aerodynamics of slender bodies, in collaboration with BAE SYSTEMS, and also internal flows associated with heat exchanger design.

We also offer state-of-the-art facilities and expertise in Transport Design including a full size “drive-in” transport styling, design and research laboratory with vehicle modelling studios and advanced, industry standard computer aided modelling & virtual reality facilities. In addition, our research teams are involved in a number of high profile regional projects included the TSB-funded CABLED ultra-low carbon vehicle demonstrator trial and the Niche Vehicle Network, run by CENEX, which provides support to companies in the niche vehicle sector on the innovative application of low carbon technologies for the automotive sector.

CENEX
Cenex is a delivery agency established with support from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to promote UK market development and competitiveness in low carbon and fuel cell technologies for transport applications. Cenex’s principal focus is on catalysing market transformation projects linking technology providers and end users. As part of this work, it runs a number of programmes for UK national and regional government, including the Low Carbon Vehicle Procurement Programme, Low Carbon Knowledge Transfer Network and Advantage Niche Vehicle Programme.

ICON CFD
ICON is an independent CFD company founded as a spin-off from Imperial College, London in 1992. Since its inception, ICON has had one focus: to provide its customers with confidential advice and expertise in CFD process, technology and consultancy services.

ICON's industrial customers range from automotive, aerospace and personal care organisations through to white goods and processing companies. In addition to ICON's expertise in mainstream external aerodynamics simulation, it has developed custom processes for aero-acoustics and vehicle soiling (particle deposition).

Being independent, ICON can select the best technology from both the commercial and open source CFD community to provide its customers with efficient, cost effective consultancy and processes. More information on the commercial software tools used by ICON can be found at iconCFD.com.

An emerging trend in industry and academia is an interest in open source CFD technologies. ICON has been training, supporting and developing processes for users in this area for over five years. A recent notable example is a custom CFD process developed and supported by ICON for the Volkswagen Group to support virtual design of its vehicles in the disciplines of aerodynamics, under-hood thermal management and climate control.

The company offers a complete support service to users, based upon open source CFD solver technology called ICON FOAMpro. It also organizes an International Conference each year aimed at informing and providing a forum for companies and academia using open source CFD technologies. Please visit ICON's sister site at opensourceCFD.com for further details.
